The hen, the bee and the strawberry tree... Natural nougat. Sardinia, Italy There are authentic torrone producers throughout Italy, however the Sardinians are revered for their mastery of this elegant sweet. Torronificio Gennargentu are situated in a small village in the centre of the island, where the Maxia family have produced this delicacy for many years. The daughter Simona took over the business last year and has since decided to remove table sugar from the recipe. By relying on the honey for both its sweetness and preservative properties she ensures a chemical and additive free product made from just honey, egg white and nut. We redesigned the packaging around the Maxia family. 'The hen, the bee and the strawberry tree' name evoved from the secret recipe for their signature bitter honey bar. The symbol of the hen features heavily in Sardinia's admirable history of crafts and especially with wood carving, in which the Maxia family also have a recognised mastery.
