Simmaco Rosso I.G.T. Isola dei Nuraghi
Award-winning Sardinian red wine

In 2006 this Simmaco won the much-coveted Silver Medal Award at the Los Angeles County Fair - Limited Production Wine Competition.

This is a noble red wine that owes its name to a 5th century pope and saint, originally born in Simaxis, a small town in the middle-western part of Sardinia, where the Deidda wine cellar is located. Simmaco is obtained from a blend of the two most characteristic and probably best known grapes of the Sardinian territory: Cannonau and Carignano. The cellar produces around 10,000 bottles a year and the wine matures in oak barrels for about 12 months. Vineyard growth is with the spalier guyot short method with a maximum production of 60ql per ha.

It is a very heavy ruby red wine with an intense aroma reminiscent of ripe red fruit, marmalades and plums. It is a full bodied wine with a sapid and lightly tannic taste. Its flavour is enhanced when accompanied by typical traditional dishes such as red meat and cured cheese. This wine, if well stored, can further mature for a few years more, resulting in an enhancement of its particular characteristics. It is best if served when opened some time before consumption in order to allow the wine to breathe.
